2014 Future Leaders Graduation

2014 Future Leaders GraduationSanibel Island resort Beach Walk

In the midst of a blustery winter, the Future Leaders had the opportunity to visit Sundial Beach Resort & Spa located on Sanibel Island, Florida with members of the Columbus Hospitality Executive Team. Sundial Beach Resort & Spa  is undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation scheduled for completion in early 2015. The Future Leaders were put to work, but not until after having a bit of fun!

Sundial Resort Beach Spa FunSundial’s Activities Department offers a wide variety of things to do, explore, and learn. The Future Leaders participated in the Resort’s exciting and interactive “Selfie Scavenger Hunt”. Supplied with bicycles, a map of the island, and a list of clues, the girls challenged the boys in this spirited competition. After racing to several locations, including the Sanibel Island Lighthouse and a local ice cream shop, the boys ultimately won the competition, but a good time was had by all!

During their time on the island, the Future Leaders set out to tour other resorts, hotels, and timeshares in Sanibel Island and Fort Myers. Resorts follow a different model than many of the properties Columbus Hospitality manages in Ohio and it was an excellent opportunity to experience hospitality from an alternative perspective. That evening, they took a short field trip to Bonita Springs to dine at DeRomo’s Gourmet Market and Restaurant. There, they browsed the market that features prepared foods, butcher shop, fresh fish and seafood, cheese, wine, a full bakery, and fresh produce before enjoying classic Italian cuisine artfully prepared. Everything from calamari to tiramisu was devoured by the group.

Sundial Resort Beach Spa FunOn the final day, the Future Leaders were put to work. Some members of the group headed back to Bonita Springs and assisted Columbus Hospitality Project Manager, John Mueller, at DeRomo’s Gourmet Market and Restaurant. John tasked some of the team with moving and installing new refrigerators. The second group spent the day sanding and re-staining tables and chairs that are used at the pool deck and beach. The final group walked the property and provided the Sundial Management Team with suggestions on improved signage throughout the vast property.

The trip came to a close with a delicious dinner prepared by Sundial Resort Executive Chef, Criss Menassa, and graduation ceremony including kind words from the General Managers and Columbus Hospitality President, Charles Lagarce. The evening ended with some friendly competition in the form of Hollywood Game Night where the girls got their revenge and took home the win!

The trip was a great success with lots of laughs and time spent getting to know one another and the Executive Team a bit better.  The best part? One of our Future Leaders transitioned from a Columbus property to Sundial Resort and is now there permanently as an Assistant Food & Beverage Manager.
